In New York State, A07190 was signed by the Governor on September 13th. As New York State Assemblyman John T. McDonald III writes in The TimesUnion this bill is “an important tool in fighting blight in our communities.” The legislation “requires the real property transfer tax return relating to residential property sold or purchased by a limited liability company to include information on the ownership of such company.”
Once again, New York State takes a positive step in the fight against blight. The question yet to be answered is how valuable this information will prove to be. The key will be, whether the information (found on a tax return) will be readily available and in a timely manner to the individuals that need it (code officials etc.)
